Back To School Driving Safety Tips

Back To School Driving Safety TipsDriving tips to keep kids safe as they head back to school.

How is it already time to send the kids back to school? It seems like just days ago that we were celebrating the start of summer, but it’s already time to put them back in class.

With the start of the new year comes an increase of kids on the road. Protect them by using these back to school safe driving tips.

  • Crosswalk Care: When you come up to a crosswalk, double-check that there are no pedestrians waiting. Kids are smaller, so they can be harder for your eye to catch. Be extra careful!
  • Read Right: In school zones, traffic laws often change at different times of day. Read all posted signage carefully and obey both traffic laws and your children’s school’s drop-off and pick-up protocol.
  • Stop For Safety: When you see a school bus with its red overhead lights flashing, come to a complete stop and wait until they turn off to protect kids who will be getting on and off the bus.

School Bus Safety Tips

With school back in session, it is common to see big yellow school buses on the road. It is important to make sure that you follow the right traffic rules when around a bus to keep you and the school children safe. Keep these tips in mind to ensure that you stay safe around school buses this school year.

  • Make sure that you plan out enough time in the morning to get to the bus stop early so that you do not have to run across the road to catch the bus.
  • Teach your children to talk quietly on the bus so that they do not distract the bus driver.
  • Make sure that your children always wait at least five giant steps away from the road when waiting for the bus to stay out of danger.
  • Make sure that your child does not block the emergency exit of the bus with their belongings to ensure that everyone is able to get off the bus in an emergency.
