St. Patrick’s Day Driving Alternatives

St. Patrick’s Day Driving AlternativesUnder no circumstances should you drink and drive. Ever!

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, every 51 minutes a person is killed in a drunk driving accident in the U.S. From 2006 to 2010, over 700 people were killed nationwide in crashes involving at least one drunk driver. If you’re going to be drinking this St. Patrick’s Day, make sure to avoid drinking and driving any way you can.
To prevent more tragedies and reduce this horrific statistic, here are a few steps you can take to be as safe as possible.

  • Before you go out, designate a DD (designated driver). Maybe you and your friends take turns, or you leave it to chance and roll a dice. The one whose number is chosen must drive!
  • If your city allows for it, use public transportation. It’s there for a reason, make use of it! It may not be time-sensitive, but as you sober up you’ll realize you’ve made the right choice.
  • If impaired, call a taxi, or use Uber/Lyft to get you home. It may be pricey, but it’s nothing compared to the alternative.
  • If you see any of your friends that have been drinking, try and drive—take their keys and talk some sense into them.
