4th of July Summer Safety Tips

The 4th of July weekend is usually centered on spending as much time as possible outdoors in the warm weather. While there are many fun activities that happen during this time, it is important to keep safety in mind. Following these 4th of July safety tips can help ensure everyone has an enjoyable holiday.

  • Practice water safety. The warm weather usually means spending a lot of time near water, such as at the pool or lake. Make sure to never swim alone and to supervise small children whenever they are around water.
  • Fireworks. If you are planning on lighting your own fireworks this holiday, make sure to check with your local laws to ensure they are legal. Never let children handle fireworks, and clear the launch area from any flammable materials.
  • Use sunscreen. Make sure to choose a sunscreen with at least 15 SPF and protects from both UVA and UVB rays. Reapply at least every two hours when spending time outdoors.
  • Avoid heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids and stay in the shade or indoors during the hottest parts of the day.
