White Cane Safety Day is October 15thOctober 15th is White Cane Safety Day, which helps to celebrate the blind and visually impaired people and their achievements in the United States. It’s also a day to remind others of the importance of the white cane and how it allows the blind and visually impaired people to live more independently.

Lions Club International and the National Federation of the Blind helps to organize different promotional activities that includes the public as a way to increase awareness of the white cane and the different rules that go along with it. Some of the most common events that help to celebrate White Cane Safety Day include walks, public service announcements and meetings.

White Cane Safety Day is also used to help remind people that pedestrians and motor vehicles need to yield to blind and visually impaired people who are using canes as they walk, in accordance with the law passed in 1930.

The United States Congress approved White Cane Safety Day as a national holiday in 1964.
