Store Your Boat with These Tips

With boating season coming to an end, it is important to make sure that your boat is properly stored for the cooler weather. Keep these tips in mind to make sure that your boat is protected while in storage this winter.

  • Hull. Make sure to thoroughly clean the hull of your boat and look for any stress cracks. Fix any damage to the hull of your boat before covering it and putting it in storage.
  • Fuel. Fill up the fuel tank completely to prevent damage caused by condensation while the boat is sitting. Also make sure to add a fuel stabilizer to prevent the degradation of the fuel.
  • Bilge. Clean the bilges using a wire brush and spray them with a small amount of antifreeze and lubricant to make sure they are not damaged while they are sitting.
  • Interior. Remove as much as you can from the interior of your boat, including flares and life jackets. Make sure that your boat cover is well vented to prevent trapped moisture from causing mildew and mold.

Even while your boat is in storage, it is important to make sure that it is protected with the right boat insurance coverage. Contact Miller Insurance Associates in Carlisle, Pennsylvania for all of your Pennsylvania insurance needs.
