June: National Safety Month

June: National Safety Month

Health is something that we take for granted, but with these safety tips, you can guarantee your safety.

Injuries are a leading cause of disability among people of all ages and are actually the leading cause of death for Americans aged 1 to 44. The good thing about injuries is that most of them can be prevented, which may save you a trip to the hospital (or worse). Here are some things you can do to stay safe and prevent injuries. As June is National Safety Month, it’s your time to spread awareness to decrease the amount of injuries one person at a time and make June as safe as possible.

What Can You Do on National Safety Month to Make a Difference?

  • Driving and Biking: Driving and biking pose a big threat to us because most of do at least one of these every single day. Make sure that you use your headlights and your blinkers when necessary.
  • Medication: Keep your medicine above children’s reach in a locked cabinet. If your home does not have a medical cabinet, install a key lock below your sink to keep children from getting into them and taking any dangerous medication.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Disasters occur when you least expect them: Meaning that you should have evacuation plans for fires/earthquakes/floods just in case they happen when you least expect them (and they will). You should also have first aid kits available at the ready in case someone needs any immediate medical attention.
  • Preventing Falls: Prevent falls, slips, and trips in your home by keeping alleyways and staircases free of any obstacles like toys, clothes, or any objects that could pose threats to one’s balance.
